This expedition delivers a full-scale journey through history, starting in Istanbul , Turkey , a beautiful city joining Asia and Europe . We enjoy the Ruins, battle fields and culture of this great country, Crusader castles and markets of Syria as well as the oldest continually inhabited city in the world, Damascus . The Dead Sea is next and Wadi Moussa from where we explore the ancient capital of the Nabataeans, Petra . Taking a break from man-made structures, we venture into the desert to Wadi Rum, Lawrence of Arabia’s country, to drink mint tea with the locals and sleep out under the stars. Departing the port of Aqaba we take the ferry to Egypt . The Red Sea has some of the best diving in the world with clear blue water and abundant coral and sea life, camel safaris, jeep safaris, snorkelling or just relax in a beachside café. Luxor, on the banks of the Nile, with its tombs, monolithic statues and over a dozen temple complexes making this area one immense museum. This is the site of Thebes , the capital of ancient Egypt . South of Luxor is Aswan , the southernmost town in Egypt , departure point for a side trip to the Abu Simbel on the shores of Lake Nasser . From Aswan , we take a felucca down the Nile , This is a great chance to sit back, relax while the crew cook all sorts of traditional food. We Arrive in Cairo , by train on the last day of the tour. The Middle East overland trips from Istanbul to Cairo or vice versa can be joined in either city. |
